It is my hope and prayer that in twenty years Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton church will be a completed project.
In twenty years 39% of the people participating in the poll would like to see a Muti-purpose building? I feel that this question was very short sighted and should not have been an option. In twenty years the parish should be at or near completion. Chances are there will be a multi-purpose building completed first within the next couple of years, and then the building committee can start on the “Church” and administration offices. All else will fall into place and order once the parish community starts to meet on the actual church property. This will develop a sense of excitement and unity giving the parish leaders an opportunity to generate funds and collect feedback on the parish needs.

I voted OTHER. And indicated that in 20 yrs I'd like to have all of these things, if there is space and money to do it. In that sense I agree with you.
The short sighted comment was an unneccessary shot. It was my intent to give the ideas discussed in the committee meeting an opportunity to be seen and ranked in an unscientific test. These are ideas the building committee came up with and I floated a trial balloon.
In 20 yrs., 39% of the people feel a multi-purpose building is a must. You'd be surprised to know how many people have already said they have NO intention of attending mass in a hall for 2 years.
It is my hope and prayer that I can continue to patiently moderate this blog and provide the community with information on progress, gatherings, mass schedules and other details. (Dispite after-the-fact comments.)
Thank you 'anonymous' for reminding me that this blog was going to be, at times, a test of my patience and good nature. I appreciate and respect your comment. Perhaps in the future, you might respect my time in providing any information at all.

Hi everyone. I enjoyed reading through the comments people submitted about what they would like to see developed on the church site over a period of years.

With any project this size, it will have to be developed in phases (unless someone gives me about $12 million up front). The first phase will have to be an "all purpose hall" or assembly building where we can begin to have Masses on the site. That assembly building will also have a reception area, main office, ministry offices, restrooms, conference rooms, and a kitchen so that we can begin establishing ministries, etc. How that building looks will be determined by the deliberations of the Building Committee and an architect.

I suspect that it will take anywhere from 2-3 years to raise funds for such an assembly area. That will be phase 1.

Phase 2 will see the building of the main sanctuary (church). That may take several years.

A possible 3rd phase might see the building of a school. A few have expressed hope for a Catholic school. There is much to discuss in this regard and I don't foresee this phase occurring until several years down the road.

I appreciated the various comments about a "green" building and the need for space, recreation, grass, trees, etc. I think we should keep these things in mind as we work through Phases 1 and 2. We have more than enough property to make certain there are adequate areas for grass, trees, etc which everyone can enjoy. There should be a secured playground for our little ones. I'd love to see an outdoor area where we might have social activities, meals and even an outdoor Mass once in awhile.

I am very favorable to looking at possibilities for a "green" building. That might include solar paneling, water efficiency, drought-resistant landscaping and natural lighting. There is a lot consider in designing both Phase 1 and 2.

Those are some of my thoughts. The Building Committee will continue meeting and discerning the shape of things. Pray for them (and for me) in this regard. I welcome your comments and insight.

Finally, I want to thank Matt for overseeing this blog. He is doing this as a service to the new parish. It gives us a chance to chat and to share ideas in a spirit of enthusiasm and cooperation.

Blessings to all!

Fr. Perry

The people in the new parish community appreciate your time and management of this blog site. But the comment on being short sighted was not a shot at you, but more toward the build committee you have in place. So if the building committee is looking twenty years down the road the parish should have more then a multi-purpose building on site?

The building committee has metone time. There is a second meeting scheduled for next week. At that meeting, choosing an architect will be discussed. At the first meeting, brainstorming took place to get ideas on how we could best use the 20+ acres.
The ideas that were placed in the poll were some of those that came from that session. Had I been able to, I would have givin the option of multiple choices. I wasn't intending to imply that 20 years from now, your choice would be the ONLY thing on the property.
All I was measuring was what types of facillities were of most importance to parishoners.
The building committee is quite open minded and shares a long term mindset on what the property can accommodate. What will fit and what is the expense are the priorities at present.
Please check back for details of future meeting notes.

First of all, I just want to say that it's wonderful that our moderator is putting so much of his time and effort into this blog. The information is very detailed and it's so convenient to look at the website and get updated on all of the happenings.
Having said that...I hope that I may add some helpful comments to get started off on the right foot. I agreed with the comments of the first poster and didn't think any of those words were inappropriate or "cheap shots". Moderators need to remain neutral/impartial and state the facts. These are only the first steps of a process that will take many years and there will be lots of differing opinions.
I just feel so blessed and grateful to have the opportunity to give my input to the various committees and also have the chance to be a founding member of this new parish. I don't expect all of my ideas to be chosen. Many of us have waited a very long time for a northwest parish, so this is a very exciting time. We must trust that these committees will choose the best ideas and along with Father Perry's leadership we will have a fantastic new parish community.
Everyone is going to have a different opinion and that's what's so great about brainstorming.
I hope that the youth ministries will be focused on more than a preschool or parochial school. If these programs were updated and current maybe more would attend after 2nd grade...just a thought since so many don't come back until confirmation.
We must continue to follow Father Perry with much prayer to see what the Lord has in store for our new parish community.
Thank you moderator for providing us with so much information. Your time, effort and patience are much appreciated.
